It is the position of FC York that all players should
play either age or grade appropriate. For example, a U14
player who is in the 9th
grade may go out for the U15 team. This
would allow these players to play with and
against players they will compete against in High
School, and also attend College Showcase tournaments age
appropriately. Therefore, FC York will mandate that all
new players adhere to the above policy. However, at
the discretion of the Director of Coaching players may
tryout and play for older age groups. Any existing
player from one of the 3 merged clubs may continue to
tryout and play for either their current age group (if
not age appropriate), or their age appropriate team.
Standards for U9:
In keeping with the spirit of US Youth Soccer all U9
teams will be run as the FC York Academy. Players
will be grouped based on abilities, with the possibility
of multiple teams. These players will only train 1 time
per week and will not play in any leagues or
tournaments. The goal of FC York will be to offer quality
training in the basics of soccer, and age appropriate
techniques and tactics. Teams will be allowed to have
full field scrimmages against each other, or to play
“friendly” games against other travel teams. No carding
or club registration fees will be completed. Players
will pay a monthly training fee to the team trainer(s).
Every player will be encouraged to play for their local
travel team, where they will be carded as primary
players, and will participate as a member of those teams
for games and tournaments.
Standards for U10:
To keep an excellent working relationship with the local
club teams, U10 teams will be limited to one
training session per week with FC York. All players will
be carded to FC York as a primary player, and will
be carded as a secondary player to their York USA club
team. The teams will be allowed to play in both fall
and spring leagues, as long as those leagues do not
conflict with the age appropriate York USA league. They
will also be allowed to play in 1 fall tournament and 1
spring tournament. FC York’s U10 teams will not be
permitted to play tournaments or games on the following
weekends: Gettysburg Battlefield Blast tournament
weekend, Columbus Day weekend, and York Cup weekend*.
The teams will not be permitted to play in any
winter indoor leagues; however they may continue to
train 1 time per week if the team wishes.
Standards for U11:
To continue our excellent working relationship with the
local club teams, all U11 teams will be limited to
three training sessions every two weeks with FC York.
All players will be carded to FC York as a primary
player, and will be carded as a secondary player to
their York USA club team. The teams will be allowed to
play in both fall and spring leagues, as long as those
leagues do not conflict with the age appropriate York
USA league. They will also be allowed to play in up to 2
fall tournaments and 2 spring tournaments, as well
as participate in the EPYSA State Cup. FC York’s U11
teams will not be permitted to play tournaments or
games on the following weekends: Gettysburg Battlefield
Blast tournament weekend, Columbus Day
weekend, and York Cup weekend*. The FC York U11 teams
will also be permitted to play in 1 winter indoor
session, and may participate in the EPYSA Indoor Cup.
They may also continue to train 1 time per week
indoors.
Standards for U12:
While working with the local club teams continues to be
extremely important, training at the U12 level may
be expanded to two training sessions per week at FC
York. All players will be carded to FC York as a
primary player, and will be carded as a secondary player
to their York USA club team. The teams will be
allowed to play in both fall and spring leagues, as long
as those leagues do not conflict with the age
appropriate York USA league. They will also be allowed
to play in up to 2 fall tournaments and 2 spring
tournaments, as well as participate in the EPYSA State
Cup. FC York’s U12 teams will not be permitted to<
play tournaments or games on the following weekends:
Gettysburg Battlefield Blast tournament weekend,
Columbus Day weekend, and York Cup weekend*. The FC York
U12 teams will also be permitted to play in
2 winter indoor sessions, and may participate in the EPYSA Indoor Cup. They may also continue to train 1
time per week indoors.
Standards for U13 and above:
Beginning with the U13 teams, and continuing to U18/19,
FC York’s goal is to create at least one “premier”
team per age group. As previously stated, all FC York
players must be carded as a primary player. Should a
player wish to continue playing with their local club
team, they would have to be carded as a secondary
player to that team. There will be no restrictions
placed on the number of training sessions per week, leagues,
or tournaments. Should a conflict arise, all players are
required to play for FC York. This is not only a FC
York policy, but also an EPYSA policy.
* Teams will be allowed to enter tournaments on the
above mentioned blackout weekends, if the majority of
their players are not playing with their secondary
teams. Any player whose team is playing on one of the 3
mentioned weekends must play with their secondary team.
